Lonely in Happy Town

Quentin works in the boring but predictable Halt N Purcha$e convenience store in Guelph, Ontario, but a lot of his life revolves around the app Happy Town, a gentle game where your avatar hangs out in cozy exotic environments and quests. He fantasizes as much about his more confident avatar Harry the hedgehog’s crush in the game, Mabel the purple axolotl, as he does his very real co-worker, Celeste, a trans girl, though both seem hopelessly out of reach. At the same time, he navigates the difficult situation of his parents’ divorce and his father’s depression, which leaves him on his own much of the time.
